If you are upgrading from a version that uses static marks, recreate them as SmartMarks before the upgrade

Preps versions earlier than 5.3 do not include SmartMark functionality. If you are using a version of Preps earlier than 5.3, you must create SmartMarks after the migration to Preps 8.

Before the upgrade, while you are still using the version of Preps that has static marks, recreate your static marks as SmartMarks.

If you recreate the static marks as SmartMarks in your current version of Preps, the SmartMarks will be migrated to Preps 8 and you can use them in the new version with no further setup required.

If you do not create the SmarkMarks before the migration, any migrated static marks are automatically converted to SmartMarks when you open a migrated template or job in Preps 8. However, the conversion works only in that Preps template or job—the converted marks are not saved in the Resources library. Before you can create new jobs or build new templates in Preps 8, you must set up SmartMarks.

If you are upgrading from a version earlier than Version 7, be prepared for these changes:

• Come and Go templates are handled differently.
  Preps now automatically divides sections based on the total page count and logically orders book sections on press runs according to the Come and Go standard. Book section placements cannot be modified in relation to press runs (Signature Information).
• Collation mark limitations (new jobs)
  Smart Collation marks are now automatically anchored to low, high, or mid folio pages of Product sections. Static collation marks are no longer supported.
• Job Notes custom fields are reset to default values after migration.
  
  The defaults.ppd file that can contain custom content entries for data that corresponds to custom or variable text marks must be manually copied

Two types of installation

Your copy of Preps software may be:

• Integrated with Prinergy Workflow software or Prinergy Evo software
• A standalone installation

Integrated installations

You do not need to perform the installation procedure on this page.

If your version of Preps 8.0 is integrated and supported with Kodak Prinergy Workflow 8.0, it will be automatically installed/updated in the Workshop directory when the installer is run on the client workstation. Preps 8.0 is also supported with Prinergy Evo 6.1.3 (or later).

• The templates, marks, resources, and printers folders will be located in the AraxiPreps volume on the Prinergy server. To convert legacy jobs and templates, run the Preps Template Migration Utility.

Standalone installations

Use the procedure on this page to install Preps independently of Prinergy Workflow Software on the client workstation.

• The templates, marks, resources, and printers folders will be located locally. To convert legacy jobs and templates, run the Preps Template Migration Utility.
• The default profile will be used when launching Preps from a standalone installation. To migrate configuration settings, run the Preps Migration Utility.

Important: Do not attempt to overwrite or install Preps on Prinergy Workflow Clients on the AraxiPreps share of a Prinergy Workflow server.

To install Preps software:

1. Confirm that the workstation on which you are installing the Preps software meets the system requirements.
2. Log on to your computer as an administrator.
3. If an existing copy of the Preps software is already installed:
   1. Store a backup copy of the existing Preps installation folder in another location.
   2. Ensure that the software is not running when you start the installation.
4. Log on to Kodak Partner Place.
5. On the Partner Place home page, select Service & Support > Prepress Software Downloads.

6. Search for Preps 8.x downloads, and download the Preps 8.0.2 Installer for your operating system to your workstation.

7. Browse to the location where you stored the installer file and double-click it.
   The Installation Wizard appears.

8. In the Installation Wizard, follow the instructions.
   Note: A computer restart may be required.
   Due to security settings, you may encounter an error message when installing Preps on a Mac OS 10.9 computer.
   
9. If you encounter the error message, perform these actions:
   1. In System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General, click the lock icon and enter the administrator's password to unlock the settings.
   2. Set Allow applications downloaded from to Anywhere.
10. If applicable, use the Migration Utility tool to copy previous configuration settings from a backed-up copy to the new installation folder.

11. License your Preps software in one of the following ways:
